Parkrose School District Volunteer Expectations*

By checking the 'I acknowledge...' box below, the volunteer agrees to abide by the following expectations.

  1. Volunteers must maintain a high level of confidentiality about information gained while performing service to the district.
  2. Volunteers shall adhere to applicable laws, district policies, school rules and procedures.
  3. Volunteers shall perform their services under the direction of an administrator, supervisor, or volunteer coordinator.
  4. Volunteers shall not engage in political or religious activities while performing service for the district.
  5. Volunteers must use normal registration procedures upon entering school buildings, including signing in and wearing appropriate identification, as required.
  6. Volunteers are asked to maintain the professional attitude of respecting the confidentiality of all information and activities related to students and other personnel in the school.
  7. Volunteers are asked to abide by the same district policy pertaining to appropriate behavior at school as school employees, including, but not limited to smoking, profanity, discipline and the promotion of personal religious doctrine.
  8. Because dependability is so important to the success of the volunteer program, volunteers are asked to call the school as early as possible if unable to fulfill their volunteer obligation.
  9. 9. Volunteer rules:
    1. Teachers are always responsible for students assigned to them.
    2. Teachers are responsible for general planning, individual student diagnosis and prescription decisions.
    3. Because of their relationship to both students and curriculum, teachers and principals must remain the final judges of whether a particular volunteer may work at the school and must be free at any time to discontinue the volunteer’s service at the school. Volunteers may ask for reassignment.
  10. Volunteers are not to administer student discipline in the schools.
  11. Volunteers are not to administer medication to students.

Suspected Sexual Conduct with Students and Reporting Requirements
For the safety of our students, staff, and community members, all Parkrose School District volunteer applicants are encouraged to review the Suspected Sexual Conduct with Students and Reporting Requirements training for volunteers.

Advisory

A check of the applicant's criminal history will be made by the Parkrose School District to verify the responses to the preceding questions. Per ORS 339.374 (2), applicants will also be screened through the Oregon Department of Education's Sexual Misconduct Verification System to determine if the Department has an ongoing investigation or substantiated report of sexual misconduct before being allowed to volunteer.

By signing below, I hereby grant to the Parkrose School District permission to check civil or criminal records to verify any statement made on this form. Regardless of whether the applicant grants consent, the Parkrose School District will conduct a criminal offender record check of applicants for the position of school bus driver, volunteer, or other prospective school employees working with or around children. The applicant is entitled to review his/her criminal history for inaccurate or incomplete information. Discrimination by an employer on the basis of arrest records alone may violate federal civil rights law.
